(Procedure also generally applies to Renault Kangoo I, Renault 21, Renault Clio II with minor design differences)

🛡️ Safety Preparations

Park on a level surface

  • Engage parking brake
  • Allow engine to cool slightly (warm oil drains better)
  • Wear safety gloves and eyewear
  • Keep fire sources away from oil
📦 Tools & Materials Required
  • New oil filter (correct spec for your Duster 1.5)
  • New engine oil (correct grade & quantity per manufacturer)
  • Oil drain pan
  • Socket set or wrench for oil drain plug
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Funnel
  • Cleaning spray or brake cleaner (optional)
  • Shop rags or paper towels
  • Car jack and axle stands, if needed
Procedures
  1. Prepare the vehicle
Open the hood and remove the engine cover if present.
Raise the vehicle and secure it if access from underneath is required.
  2. Locate the oil filter and drain plug
The oil filter is usually near the front of the engine block.
  3. Remove any obstructing components
For this model, unscrew the sensor mount from the air filter housing to gain access.
  4. Remove the old oil filter
    Position the drain pan underneath.
Use the oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the filter.
Allow any oil inside the filter to drain fully.
  5. Drain the old engine oil
Place the drain pan under the oil pan drain plug.
Loosen and remove the plug carefully.
Let the oil drain completely, then reinstall the plug and tighten securely (use recommended torque if available).
  6. Install the new oil filter
Before installation, lightly oil the rubber seal on the new filter.
Screw the new filter in by hand until snug, then tighten slightly more (do not overtighten).
  7. Refill with fresh engine oil
    Remove the oil filler cap.
Insert a funnel and pour in the recommended quantity and grade of oil.
Check the dipstick to verify correct level.
  8. Reinstall removed components
Refit the sensor mount and any covers you removed.
  9. Start the engine
Let it idle for a few minutes.
Check for leaks around the filter and drain plug.
  10. Final level check
Switch off engine and wait a few minutes.
Recheck dipstick and top up oil if needed.
  11. Dispose of used oil properly
Take waste oil and filter to a certified recycling center.
Post-Service Checks
  • Look for oil spots under the vehicle after driving
  • Check oil level again after your first drive
  • Reset maintenance/oil change reminder if applicable
⚠️ Important Notes
  • Wrong oil grade can damage your engine
  • Never cross-thread the oil filter or drain plug
  • Do not overtighten the oil filter
  • Handle hot oil with caution
📌 Service Interval Recommendation

Typically every 10,000 km or 12 months, depending on driving conditions and Renault specifications.
